Al-Ikhlas Hope Society

Lighting the Way to a Better Future

Our Story

Al-Ikhlas Hope Society (AHS) started out in early 2018 as a project to support the running of Al-Ikhlas School, a refugee learning centre in Batu Caves, Kuala Lumpur, which was then struggling to sustain itself. Five years on, AHS is still continuing to fund and oversee the management of the school. AHS has also expanded in its support for the refugee community as a whole.

What We Do

Al-Ikhlas Hope Society (AHS) provides a wide range of programs and services designed to support refugees, migrants, stateless individuals, and other marginalized communities. Our approach is community-based, culturally responsive, and holistic, focusing on education and community social services through Al-Ikhlas School and Community Center, as well as healthcare and financial assistance through the Refugee Emergency Fund (REF).

  • We provide pre-school and primary level education via our UNHCR-registered learning centre, Al-Ikhlas School, for Rohingya and Myanmar children.

  • We provide healthcare support (primary and secondary health) including case management, bill payment, referrals, and health education via the Refugee Emergency Fund (REF)

  • We organize and facilitate capacity building initiatives and trainings that enhances the skills of community leaders and focal points via both our school and REF.

  • We work together with several partner organizations and individual donors to provide much needed essentials to families and children in our community. These include food, clothing, books, and toys, among others.

  • We engage with several stakeholders and partners including key agencies via research, collective activism, partnership building, public events, and media campaigns.

Our Main Projects

Al-Ikhlas School & Community Center

AHS’s main project that inspired the foundation of our organization is the Al-Ikhlas School. We support the school through funding for operations and staffing, oversee the education structures and system, and provide socioeconomic support to families living in the vicinity of the school.

Refugee Emergency Fund (REF)

AHS officially became the Fiscal Sponsor for REF in 2021 shortly after our chairperson, Ms Liza Nordeen, joined their committee. We manage REF’s finances, grants, governance, and systems. REF provides much needed financial assistance and other resources for refugees, migrants and stateless people facing emergencies.
