REF Services

What We Do

  • REF’s core service is to provide financial assistance for emergency cases faced by the most vulnerable populations in Malaysia (refugees, asylum seekers, undocumented migrants, stateless people, etc). Through collective crowdfunding efforts, internal case management, and strategic partnerships, we fill in the gap in this critical need.

  • REF actively organizes capacity building trainings and workshops for community leaders, focal points and community members on health-related topics like Family Planning, Sexual & Reproductive Health & Rights, Financial Planning, and Birth Registration, among others.

  • REF is actively involved in research and advocacy initiatives to bring about systemic change and influence policy via stakeholder engagements, research presentations, regional & national advocacy platforms, awareness events, and targeted public engagement, among others.

Financial Assistance & Case Management

  • Medical

Medical & health related emergencies including but not limited to secondary treatments and life-saving surgeries.

  • Rental

Rent and housing related emergencies for families & individuals facing evictions or have been evicted.

  • Burial

Burial support for people who leave this world and their families struggle to cover burial related costs.

  • Others

We also provide other type of essential support like food, milk, diapers, transportation assistance, wheelchair, and medical beds, among others.

Capacity Building

  • Family Planning

We organize Family Planning Workshops as well as Training of Trainers. These workshops include a wide range of information about the different methods of family planning that aims to help parents make informed decisions about their family.

  • Sexual & Reproductive Health & Rights

Complementary to Family Planning, SRHR encompasses a broad spectrum of issues related to sexual and reproductive health, emphasizing the importance of individuals' rights to make informed decisions about their bodies and reproductive lives.

  • Birth Registration

This topic includes information and resources about birth registration of newborn babies under the UNHCR process as well as the local JPN process.

  • Financial Planning

As couples plan to bring a child into the world, we educate them about the financial responsibilities and how to better plan their finances to ensure this new chapter in their lives is done without financial burden.

Research & Advocacy

  • Research Presentations

Through qualitative and quantitative data collected via our internal systems, we analyse them into research papers that are then presented at regional and national conferences.

  • Stakeholder Engagements

REF recognizes the importance of collaborative approaches to address community needs and so we continuously engage with relevant stakeholders and partner organizations to ensure meaningful collaborations.

  • National Advocacy

Besides local and regional advocacy, REF is also involved in international advocacy platforms to bring community issues to a higher level for potential global-led efforts in policy change.

  • Public Events

REF actively organizes and coordinate public events in partnership with other CBOs and NGOs to raise awareness on the issues faced by the community through panel discussions, art shows, and cultural performances, among others.
